CHEMTRADE COMMENCES POST- HURRICANE ASSESSMENTS AT BEAUMONT, TEXAS PLANT
TORONTO, September 26, 2005 - Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (TSX: CHE.UN) today announced that it has commenced post-hurricane assessments at its chemical plant in Beaumont, Texas. Chemtrade is seeking permission for senior management to return to the site for a preliminary inspection of the facility to assess any damage that may have been caused by Hurricane Rita.
Mark Davis, Chemtrade President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We understand that water and power services in the area have been impacted, and restoration of those services will also affect when we can restart our operations. At this stage we have no indication of when those services will be restored. In the meantime, we are taking steps to ensure that any Beaumont customers who require product are supplied by our other facilities.” Mr. Davis also noted that Chemtrade has business interruption insurance that will mitigate the impact of the plant closure and the effects of the hurricane on its normal business.
The Beaumont plant, which processes spent acid for oil refineries and chemical operations in the area, was shut down last Thursday as Hurricane Rita approached. Mr. Davis said all reports indicate that all employees of the plant found safe refuge from the storm.
Further operational updates on the post-hurricane assessment and restart of operations at Beaumont will be posted to the Chemtrade website http://www.chemtradelogistics.com/.
Chemtrade is one of the world’s largest suppliers of sulphuric acid, liquid sulphur dioxide (SO2) and sodium hydrosulphite (SHS), and a leading processor of spent acid, particularly in the U.S. Gulf Coast region. Chemtrade is also a leading regional supplier of sulphur, sodium chlorate and phosphorous pentasulphide, and also produces zinc oxide at three North American locations.
