NEWS RELEASE
TORONTO, April 6, 2004 -
Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (TSX: CHE.UN) disclosed today
that a truck carrying sodium hydrosulphite produced by one of its
US subsidiaries was involved late yesterday in a serious collision
with a car on the I-75 highway in Kentucky. Mark Davis, the CEO
of Chemtrade said, “We currently have very few confirmed
details regarding this accident but were saddened to hear that
there were fatalities.” Chemtrade is providing technical
assistance to the local authorities in connection with the reopening
of the I-75 highway.
Chemtrade ships all its product using third
party carriers. In this case the truck belongs to a South Carolina
transportation
company that provides shipping services to Chemtrade. As is
typical of Chemtrade’s arrangements with third party
shipping companies, the shipping contract provides that the
carrier must indemnify Chemtrade for any liabilities arising
in circumstances such as this accident.
Chemtrade Logistics
operates diversified businesses that provide industrial chemicals
and services to customers in North America
and around the world. Through marketing services agreements
and its own production facilities, Chemtrade is one of the
world’s largest suppliers of sulphuric acid, liquid sulphur
dioxide and sodium hydrosulphite. Chemtrade is also a leading
regional supplier of sodium chlorate and elemental sulphur.
