Accessibility plan and policies for Chemtrade Logistics Inc.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (The “AODA) is a law that was passed by the Province of Ontario which allows the government to develop and enforce specific standards for accessibility.  The standards are intended to achieve accessibility for people with disabilities in the area of customer service, transportation, the built environment, information and communication, and employment.

This accessibility plan for 2014 through 2021 outlines the policies and actions that Chemtrade Logisitcs Inc. (“Chemtrade”) will put in place to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Chemtrade’s Commitment

Chemtrade is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity.  Chemtrade is committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility requirement under the AODA and any other applicable legislation.

Accessible Emergency Information

Chemtrade is committed to ensuring that its premises are safe for people with disabilities.  Chemtrade provides its customers and clients with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way, upon request.  We will also provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information, when necessary.

Training

Chemtrade will provide training to employees, volunteers and other staff members on Ontario’s accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities.

Chemtrade will take the following steps to ensure employees are provided with the training needed to meet Ontario’s accessible laws:

  • Develop and implement appropriate training materials:
  • Ensure training is provided as soon as possible after the employee commences employment with Chemtrade
  • Create a plan and schedule for periodic refresher training to ensure ongoing awareness and understanding;
  • Keep and maintain a record of the training provided.

Information and Communications

Chemtrade is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities. Chemtrade will ensure its website and content conform to WCAG 2.0, Level AA by January 1, 2021.

Employment

Chemtrade is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. We will take the following steps to notify the public and employees that, when requested, we will accommodate people with disabilities during the recruitment and assessment process and when employees are hired. Every job posting on our website and third-party websites will contain the following note:

Chemtrade is committed to fair and accessible employment practices and will, where possible, provide accommodations for persons with disabilities.”

Chemtrade has a history of managing accommodation, modified work and return-to-work plans as required.  Each employee’s unique needs are considered in consultation with a third party disability care management organization, the attending physician, the employee, their manager, and Human Resources to determine the optimal plan.

From 2014 and beyond, Chemtrade will continue its practice of working on a case-by-case basis with all employees who require accommodation, or modified work, or who have been absent due to disability.  Our Human Resources team and Care Management consultants work with each employee and their manager to ensure the employee’s specific needs are taken into account as a customized return-to-work plan is created.

Chemtrade will ensure the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities are taken into account during performance management, career development and redeployment processes.
