International
BCT Chemtrade, a wholly owned subsidiary, is Chemtrade’s international sulphur products marketing arm.
Based in Zug, Switzerland, BCT Chemtrade removes, markets and distributes sulphuric acid and liquid sulphur produced by oil refineries, non-ferrous smelters and other industrial facilities in Europe, South America, and the Middle and Far East. Following the purchase in May 2005 of Kemmax (formerly Ruhr Schwefelsäure GmbH) and its subsidiary, Ruhr Transport GmbH, Chemtrade is the leading independent sulphur removal company in Germany, providing services to major oil and gas industry customers in Central Europe, primarily in Germany.
BCT Chemtrade has maintained strong relationships, some for as long as 20 years, with many suppliers of by-products. These include Boliden Mineral (Sweden), Outukumpu/Norzink (Norway), Asturiana, Preem Petroleum (Sweden) and the Shell Refinery in the Netherlands. Suppliers in Germany and Central Europe include BP, Shell and Exxon.
The by-products are marketed to end-user customers in Europe, including Bayer, Degussa and BASF, the Mediterranean, North Africa, Central and South America and the Pacific region. End-user customers are principally in the mining, chemical and fertilizer industries.
Infrastructure
BCT Chemtrade owns a storage and distribution facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which has capacity to store 35,000 tonnes of liquid sulphur and 40,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid. This includes a 15,000 tonne liquid sulphur tank that was completed in 2000 and is dedicated to the Shell Refinery of the Netherlands under a long-term service agreement for the storage, handling and marketing of Shell Netherland’s export by-product molten sulphur. BCT Chemtrade group also owns a fleet of 48 trucks and trailers.
